Questions & Answers

Q. Is flushing dog poop safe?

A. Yes! In fact the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) recommends flushing as the most eco-friendly way to dispose of dog waste! The majority of homes in the United States are connected to a municipal wastewater treatment facility. The public sewage system can effectively process pet waste, including any pathogens or parasites. Which in turn, keeps plastics out of landfills, and eliminates bacterial pollution in our waterways! Pet waste is labeled as a nonpoint source pollutant, which means it is in the same category as toxic chemicals from motor vehicles, pestisides and more. The EPA suggests flushing it down your toilet rather than letting it pile up in your yard, or throwing in the trash.

Q. Will Pup Flushers clog the toilet?

A. No! Pup Flushers are water-soluble and safe to use in standard household toilets. Usually even low flow toilets have no problems. (you can adjust your toilets flushing power if needed). Once the bag comes into contact with the water it softens and becomes safe to flush. Bags are meant to be flushed immediately and they dissolve after soaking for an hour or so, depending on temperatures. Safe for most septic systems too!

Helpful Hints:

  • Flush one bag at a time. If you have small dogs; many dog owners can pickup more than one poop with these bags.

  • If you have a large dog with big poops we recommend not to tie the bag closed. This is to insure there is no air inside.

  • Never flush frozen or dry poo, as that could cause a clog.

Q. Can I throw the bags in the trash if I don’t want to flush them?

A. Yes! You can also use these in a trashcan. These bags will dissolve in the rain while at the landfill. Or you can even drop in a porta-potty. Always dispose of or flush your bags. Never leave bags lying around in the park, forest or backyard, that causes an unsightly and smelly mess. Which can be harmful to other animals and people!

Q. Are Pup Flushers Biodegradable?

A. Yes! Pup Flushers are biodegradable and have proven to disintegrate completely within a week or two in landfills, depending on how much rain we get. They will break down to water and CO2. These bags are Eco-friendly, they disintegrate completely in landfill and septic systems. Other “biodegradable” bags when thrown into our landfills can take years to fully decompose. Most landfills don't get to the temperatures needed for “biodegradable & compostable” bags to break down, meaning they will essentially mummify along with the other trash in the landfill. It’s important to use PVA bags for true biodegradability! If your bags don’t say PVA say bye bye.

Q. Are Pup Flushers compostable?

A. Yes! There is a huge misconception that dog waste is not compostable. It very much is! Just like these bags! Just NOT for use in consumable vegetation. Parasites and bacteria can live in dog waste and soil for years, so its best to keep dog waste away from vegetable gardens. According to the EPA dog waste is a safe soil additive when composted properly. Best for landscaping or anywhere edibles will not be grown.

Q. What if it’s raining?

A. A little rain won’t hurt. Pup Flushers are strong enough to carry heavy poops and soft enough to flush when it comes in contact with water. Don’t let that fool you! These bags have extreme thickness and durability. Strong enough to last through a summer hike, or a day at the park. No need to double up. Bags will seal in the heat and smell of giant poops! In extreme weather conditions and heavy rains our bags could become weak, and if caught in a heavy downpour the bag could begin to break down and become slimly to the touch, but it will continue to hold its contents. However since we usually stay indoors during these events it would be rare to encounter a problem. Check out our reviews to see what others have said.
